Combo league rules and regulations

(last updated June 2019)

Rules found in the FTA rules and regulations shall apply to all age levels except where differences are noted below.

There must be a minimum of 2 teams to constitute a local league. If possible single teams may have to play in another local league. Local league coordinator will work to try and find a team for a singleton team to play. For 2-team leagues in all age levels, each roster must have a minimum of three combined pairings that equal the level of that flight. Two-team flights must play a minimum of three (3) matches.

A player may play on different teams at different levels. A player may play on more than one team at any specific level in different local leagues. (i.e. A player may play on more than one 7.5 team in different leagues.)

If a player plays on teams in separate leagues at the same level and both teams advance to state championships, the player may participate on only one team per level.

Players must play in at least 1 local league match in order to advance to the state championship. Players participating on multiple levels must play one local league match at each level for which they are advancing to the state championship.

Refer to 2018 combo championship rules for information regarding the deposit for teams advancing to state and penalties for withdrawing after the draw is completed and forfeiting lines at the championship.

II. Schedule for season and match play

Date of the season start will be determined each season. Day of play for all age levels will be:

18 & over

5.5 and 7.5 adults – Monday nights

6.5 and 8.5 adults – Tuesday nights

2.5 – Monday nights (unless agreed by both teams)

40 & over

5.5 and 7.5 adults – Wednesday nights

6.5 and 8.5 adults – Thursday nights

(If all teams in a flight agree to play a night other than that above, the local league coordinator will make the schedule accordingly.)

Visiting team captain shall be notified no later the 10:00 p.m. three days prior to the match.

If a team forfeits the entire team match, the team will be dropped from the league for the remainder of the season. Matches played against this team will be counted only for an individual’s qualification for advancement to the state championship. Matches will not count toward determining the season winner.

For other forfeit rules see FTA rules and regulations dated January 2019.

III. Match play

A team match will consist of 3 doubles matches.

Matches will be best 2 of 3 sets with the 10-point match tie-break being played when the match score is tied at 1 set each. All tie-breaks (set and match) will use the Coman tie-break method.

Rained out matches may be rescheduled at the discretion of both team captains, but the entire match must be completed within a two week period.

IV. Line-up exchange

See the 2019 FTA rules and regulations dated January 2019, section vi. Except – rained out matches must be completed within a 2-week period at times agreed by both teams. Each individual match may be scheduled at the discretion of the 4 players involved.

VII. Scoring

The team that wins two (2) of the three (3) individual matches will win the team match and will be awarded one (1) team point for the win. This scoring will be used at all levels of play.
